Rumble: Relevance or UN-Relevance?

A bit pissy todayIn between renegade violence and mass displacement of refugees in DRC, escalating problems in Darfur, increased signs of massive famine in East Africa, new violence in Somaliland and the aid-isolation of the earthquake victims in Pakistan, comes this press release:

"Delegates at UN telecom forum agree to reduce emissions from ICT use"

Close to 800 information and communication technology (ICT) experts from nearly 100 countries have wrapped up a United Nations meeting in Johannesburg by agreeing to work towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions arising from the use of ICTs.

In a resolution adopted at the close of the ten-day World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly in South Africa yesterday, ITU members agreed to reduce the emissions arising from the use of ICTs, in line with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). (Full)

It took 10 days with 800 people to come to an agreement to reduce emissions arising from the use of information technology? Ok. Right.
